John Mayall is on the road, touring and celebrating his life in music, no small feat for a hard working octogenarian. And while Mayall loves the current line up of his band, he
just released a new archival recording that features Peter Green, John McVie, and Mick Fleetwood in 1967. The album is a bootleg, in the truest sense of the word, the source tapes owned by a fan who only recently gave them over to John Mayall. This is the only live album of this line up to see the light of day, and it is a true testament to the strength of Peter Green's guitar skills, and the rhythm section of McVie and Fleetwood, who would, in a matter of months, leave to start Fleetwood Mac. The idea of a summit brings to mind long hours, copious amounts of coffee,  and lots of give and take to produce a finished product that the various parties can be proud of.  The end result is expected to be historic, its architect revered as a visionary.

Fortunately, the give and take on  Arlen Roth's Slide Guitar Summit is the real deal, a deal sure to be ratified by any true slide guitar fan. But then, that shouldn't come as a surprise, given Roth's extensive resume working for some of the biggest names in music.

A Hoosier by birth, Michael Jerome has been a resident of Canada ever since his parents fell in love with Montreal. And Canada has returned the love, designating the multi-instrumentalist as Canadian Folk Music Solo Artist of the year in 2008 and 2012. The Maple Blues Acoustic Artist award winner and three time Juno Award nominee can play anything within arm’s reach at a moment’s notice and his new release, Sliding Delta, is a shining testament to the enduring power of pre-war country blues.

Browne’s skill on guitar, resonator, banjo, harp, and fiddle is front and center on this collection of acoustic gems, featuring compositions by Mississippi Fred McDowell, Blind Willie McTell and Skip James, as well as contributions by lesser known artists like Barbecue Bob and Crying Sam Collins.

He is grounded by the love of his wife, Suzanne, and their six children, all of whom have had to listen to their father ramble on and on about the merits of this song or that band until they finally said, "You need a blog!" He currently lives in Richmond, Virginia. And by the way, he also has a BFA in Creative Writing from University of North Carolina at Wilmington. So there.
